Daniel J. Kelly was elected President of the American Association for a three year term commencing January1, 2004. He was the original Area Chair of Michigan, where several Malta projects have evolved. Elected to Board of Councillors in 2001, Elected Chancellor in May, 2003. Lourdes Pilgrim. Chairman and CEO of Rose Hill Center, a rehabilitation center for the seriously mentally ill, a Malta project which he and his wife, Rosemary, D.M., founded. As a result of the success of Rose Hill Center, the Kellys have received many awards, including the Family Exemplar Award and the Hesburgh Award for Ethics in Business, both from the University of Notre Dame, and the Special Tribute Award from the State of Michigan. Served Deloitte & Touche in several top regional and national management and client service positions, and on the U.S. and International Boards. National Chairman of Touche Ross; Vice-Chairman of Deloitte & Touche. Now retired. Has served on numerous boards of organizations in the Detroit business, civic and Catholic communities.

Jack Pohrer

Jack completed his first term on the Board of Councillors where he served as Chair of the Audit Committee, Chair of the Defense of the Faith Committee, and also Chair of the Auxiliary Committee.

He was Co-Chair of the Lourdes Pilgrimage in 2002 and has subsequently served in Lourdes as Captain of the Auxiliary in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and as President of the 2007 and 2008 Lourdes Pilgrimage. He has been a Lourdes Pilgrim every year since 2000.

He is a former Area Chair and former Hospitaller for St. Louis, Missouri. Served on the Board of St. Patricks Center, a Malta Project. Prepares dinner monthly for Rosati Center (mentally ill homeless residence), a Malta project. Chairman of Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation (provides scholarships for students at Catholic Schools). Chairman of the Finance Council of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, former Budget Chairman for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Past Chairman of Catholic Charities, Past Chairman of the Catholic Commission on Housing. Serves on other Catholic, charitable and civic boards in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.

Business Executive and Principal with interests in the parking industry, real estate, hospitality.

Graduated from Holy Cross College and St. Louis University Law School.
Served in the Missouri State Legislature.

Joseph Metz

Joe has served on the Board of Councillors since 2004 as Chair of the Education/Defense of the Faith Committee, and as Vice Hospitaller. Joe is Chair of the Works/Ministries Committee. He has made 21 trips to Lourdes, including 12 Malta Pilgrimages. Joe served as Co-Chair, with his wife, Elissa Metz, DM, of the 2006 Lourdes Pilgrimage, "Come Be My Light," and as Captains, Coordinators, and as members of the Lourdes Committee. In 2006 with his wife, Joe was invested into the Hospitalite Notre Dame de Lourdes where they return annually to serve the sick in memory of their son, Joe, Jr., eldest of four children. In 2004 and again in 2007, Joe was a delegate to the First International Meeting of Hospitallers in Lourdes.

From 2001 to 2007, Joe served as Area Hospitaller for the Nassau/Suffolk Long Island Area; working with his Area Chair, a substantial number of new members were added and new programs were developed, serving the sick and poor. Examples include assisting Diocesan retired priests, mentoring minority children, providing hands-on support to children and adults through a prison ministry program, and supporting weekend retreats for women who have suffered the pain of abortion.

Joe is a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Agnes Cathedral Parish; Joe and Elissa received the Caritas Award for their service to the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Joe was former Chair of the Board of Trustees of Molloy College, and Member of the Board of Regents of the Catholic University of America. An attorney at law, Joe received the Distinguished Christian Service Award from the Nassau County Catholic Lawyers’ Guild. Joe was a former principal and director of a national pension, benefits and investment company, a former executive director of the New York State Pension Commission, and a professor of government, received an A.B., M.A., and Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America, and a J.D. from Fordham Law School.

James Ryan

James L. Ryan is a Senior United States Circuit Judge, who was appointed in 1985 to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit by President Ronald Reagan. His earlier career included twenty-two years in the Michigan judiciary, where he served as a Justice of the Peace, a trial judge, and in 1975, was appointed by the Governor to be an Associate Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court.

Judge Ryan earned B.A. and LL.B degrees from the University of Detroit. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of several non-profit charitable foundations, including the Culture of Life Foundation in Washington, D.C., and Angels’ Place of Michigan, which provides residential living facilities for developmentally disabled adults. He also serves as secretary and a member of the Board of Directors of the Order of Malta, American Association.

Judge Ryan is married to the former Mary E. Rogers. They have four children and fourteen grandchildren.

Joseph Cianciolo

Joseph M. Cianciolo was elected Treasurer of the American Association in January 2007. He had previously served for four years as Chair of the Grants Committee and Chair of the Audit Committee. In 2005, he was elected to a five year term to the Order of Malta's International Audit & Finance Committee. He recently completed six years as the Treasurer of the Board of Rhode Island Hospital, where he continues as an Eucharistic Minister.

Also, Joe is a Trustee at his alma mater, Providence College and serves as Treasurer of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. Previously the Managing Partner of the Providence KPMG office, he now serves on the Board of three publicly traded companies. His wife is the former Judith Hetherman and they are the parents of four children and ten grandchildren.
